As the weather begins to warm and signs of Spring emerge, many are starting to think of Easter celebrations – and Warwick’s community groups and restaurants are working hard to make sure there’s something for “everybunny” to enjoy.
Did you know the first Easter egg hunts originated in Germany? The tradition of hiding eggs in gardens for children to find was documented in 1682 and later brought to the United States by German settlers. Here in 21st Century Warwick, the tradition remains alive and well, with modern twists like food trucks and DJs as part of the fun.
The Parks and Recreation Department has again teamed with the Tri-City Elks to present the Fifth Annual egg hunt at City Park, to be held on March 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Head on over and enjoy egg hunts by age group, giveaways, a DJ, face painting, photos with the Easter Bunny, and food trucks on site. The event is free. Registration begins at 11, with the hunts starting promptly at noon. On Wednesday, April 1, beginning at 3:30 p.m., Urban Air Adventure Park is holding Urbie’s Easter Egg Hunt, complete with amazing prizes and treats. Cost is $27.99, with members receiving 50 percent off entry. And on Saturday, April 4 at noon sharp, the Oakland Beach Community Association will host a hunt for children ages one through nine. An exciting raffle and a free, grilled burger lunch provided by the Warwick Knights of Columbus are part of the fun. The event will be held rain or shine. Please bring your own bags.
